Emergency Contacts
Tip: Local phone lines often jam during disasters. Designate one out-of-state contact as the family "hub" — it's often easier to reach someone far away than a neighbor in the same emergency zone.
Meeting Points
Why two meeting points? A nearby point (like a neighbor's driveway) is used for quick evacuations like a house fire. A distant point (a school or community center) is used when the neighborhood must be evacuated.

Utility Shutoffs
Important: Know where these are before an emergency. Practice locating them with all adult members of your household. Only shut off gas if you smell a leak — contact your utility to restore it.
Go-Bag & Supply Locations
Minimum supplies: 1 gallon of water per person per day for 3 days. 3-day food supply. Battery radio. Flashlight & batteries. First aid kit. Medications (7-day supply). Copies of important documents. See our full go-bag checklist →

Communication Plan
Establish a code word your children can use to verify that a person claiming to pick them up was actually sent by you. If the caller doesn't know the code word, children should not go with them.
